Doctor 'blundered three times'

  • guardian.co.uk, Wednesday June 7 2000 01.17 BST
A nurse had to intervene on three occasions after a doctor's blunders in an accident and emergency department, the General Medical Council heard yesterday. Fiabema Adda Oruwari, 46, of Kentish Town, north London, was working as a senior house officer at Stafford district general hospital when he made serious errors in the space of 48 hours, it was alleged.

One of the blunders involved a 10-year-old girl with a head injury. Dr Oruwari, who denies serious professional misconduct, did not appear to understand the seriousness of her condition, Sally Howes, representing the GMC, told its professional conduct committee.

Dr Oruwari is also alleged to have inadequately assessed a woman with serious facial cuts and to have failed to properly treat a man who had collapsed and had a fit.

He denies all the allegations. The hearing continues.
