Technical requirements

To use Guardian Unlimited Crosswords, you will need a web browser, preferably HTML 4.0 compliant (Netscape 7.0 or better, Internet Explorer 5.0 or better, Mozilla 1.0 or better).

To use interactive features like online completion, save, check and cheat you will need Java and Javascript installed and switched on. If you don't have Java or it doesn't work, you can use the non-interactive Print version. If you can't get Java to work on your machine, please contact the manufacturer of the computer or the helpdesk for the browser you are using.

You will need email to enter the Genius prize crossword.

Important message for Macintosh users: Some users have reported problems using the interactive features of Crosswords with the OSX operating system. We are currently investigating this, but if you have OSX there is a good chance that you will NOT be able to use the interactive functions. Please consider this before subscribing.

Cheating and checking

The cheat option lets you ask for the answer to a clue. Checking looks at the answer you have entered and removes any letters that are wrong.

You can turn on the cheat and check function by pressing the relevant button. A pop-up window will then ask if you're sure you want to turn it on, so you don't cheat by accident!

Blind/PS version

This is designed for blind or partially-sighted users. It is a stripped down text version, which should be easily read by a screen reader.
