Organic Grooves/William Parker/Hamid Drake: Black CherryJohn Fordham Friday July 26, 2002 The Guardian New York's Organic Grooves have taken "The sound science of William Parker and Hamid Drake" and turned it into a club mix. Considering that Parker is one of the most fiercely adventurous of double-bassists, and that his duets with drummer/tabla player Drake are dedicated to spontaneity, the chemistry may seem strange, but the latter's control of pitch, and Parker's fertility of ideas do come through. The pair's original album Piercing the Veil was already on the way to infinite-grooves territory, and as background music to a summer chill-out this could be surprisingly appropriate. You might drift off, but I don't think they would mind. · Send any comments or feedback about this article to friday.review@guardian.co.uk Printable version | Send it to a friend | Clip |
