Sikhism for children

Suitable for: younger children

Carol Rainbow, a primary teacher, has created this site to teach younger children the history, beliefs and way of life of Sikhs. Informative and colourful.

Tour of the Golden Temple

Suitable for: KS2/3

Dedicated to Sikhism, this site includes a resources page, with a glossary of religious terms, Sikh names and an enlightening section on gurdwaras (including the historical gurdwaras of the Punjab and a virtual tour of the Golden Temple at Amritsar). It requires Netscape 3/Internet Explorer 3, but a more powerful system is preferable.

Hukamnama

Suitable for: KS3/4

Features both historical and spiritual dimensions of Sikhism, relating to the Sikh community today. Listen to the hukamnama from Amritsar (Real Player needed), updated daily. And read the text of the hukamnama, have it emailed to you or take a "cyber hukan" from Siri Guru Granth Sahib. You can also see a western Sikh art exhibition held in 1999.

Artefacts

Suitable for: KS3 and teachers

Part of Strathclyde University's site, it features a range of Sikh artefacts, including the "five Ks". Pictures fit onto an A4 sheet for ease of printing and can be saved into a word-processed or other document (jpeg format).

Teachers' links 1

Suitable for: teachers

A wealth of links and resources from the Religious Exchange Service. Features all major world religions. Allows you to search generally or via themes of texts, art, festivals, pilgrimage, buildings, rites of passage, community and ultimate questions.

Teachers' links 2

Suitable for: teachers

Ideal for those researching RE resources. A search under Sikhism found over 40 links, though many were to the same website. Has links to curriculum advice, explores how to use ICT in RE and lists places of worship for educational visits.
