Lyons' roar

Guardian

Friday May 26, 2000

As a rank-and-file MSF member, I didn't see the article on Roger Lyons' "expenses" as a "nasty, anti-union dig at our general secretary and our campaigning union" as our president, Brenda Warrington, claims (Letters, May 25) but as a legitimate story about someone who seems to be making a nice living representing workers who don't make such a nice living.

How does he find the time to earn the £15,000 on the competition commission which he can add to his £68,000 salary? Many MSF workers don't even earn £15,000 - so, no competition there. It's noticeable that she did not comment on the union's approval of putting the takeaways, drinks from off-licences, the video, the radio, the briefcase on to expenses.
